The Central Executive Committee of SFI strongly condemns all forces responsible for the humanitarian crisis in Syria and Yemen and expresses its deep concern at the continuing armed conflict in Syria and Yemen.

The saddening and gruesome Syrian war has taken a new turn in East Ghouta, a suburb located near Damsacus, the capital of Syria. According to reports, nearly 500 persons including children and women have died in this battle. The Syrian conflict is one of the worst humanitarian where children are dying or surviving with critical injuries. It goes without saying that this episode is the latest reminder of the need for all the actors involved in the bloody war to sit down and chalk out some resolutions. While the UN Security Council has unanimously decided upon on ceasefire in the region, its implementation is doubtful since the opposition in Syria consists of several radical Jihadi groups who are non-state actors.

Amidst this tragedy, it is important that the progressive forces do not fall prey to the mischievous designs of the West and NATO. Almost all the Western media houses and government officials have used East Ghouta battle to channelize opposition to Syrian Government and Russia. It is true that Syrian government under Assad and Russia are not saints and has committed human rights violations in this bloody war. But amidst this cacophony against Assad and Russia by NATO and the western media, the role of several Jihadi groups and the NATO in shaping Syrian crisis is completely forgotten.  These Jihadi groups have inflicted massive sufferings for Syrians in enclaves controlled by them, even to the extent of not allowing them to escape during battles. All of them are propelled and assisted by the West and its allies in Middle East. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar and have directly assisted in the formation of these groups. While the USA claims that these are moderate forces, even their top officials like Former Secretary of State John Kerry have accepted their radical nature in non-publicized hearings. Saudi backed Nusra front which controlled Aleppo, until liberated by Syrian Army in Dcember 2016, for all practical purposes is the Al-Qaeda outlet in Syria.  The role of these organisations in the Syrian crisis and their western backing, including in Eastern Ghouto is obliterated by the Western press and governments in the narrative about Syrian war, to give a direct platform for their intervention in Syria, which will only result in Syria becoming a satellite and failed state like Iraq or Libya. It is important that these sinister designs of West are exposed while understanding the Syrian Crisis.

The hypocrisy of West becomes even more evident in their complete silence regarding the crisis in Yemen. More than 10000 Yemeni citizens have died in Yemen due to Saudi bombing. As a result of this war, Yemen has witnessed a massive cholera epidemic which has endangered the lives of many. At the moment, 22 million citizens in Yemen are in need of humanitarian help. But because of the blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia, even basic amenities are not reaching citizens of Yemen. But the West does not shed crocodile tears for Yemen unlike Syria because of the direct involvement of their ally in the region, Saudi Arabia.

Both the Syrian and Yemen crisis are reminders of what ominous external interventions can turn countries into. While it is important that we remain of critical of domestic actors like Syrian president Assad and his allies, we should never forget the damaging role of NATO and its allies in exacerbating this crisis.

This blatant conspiracy and attack on Syria and Yemen must be condemned and stopped by the United Nations Security Council. We also condemn the efforts of the United States, the NATO and their allies imposing their will by backing the fundamentalist armed rebels. The Central Executive Committee of SFI also takes oath to continue their struggle to achieve peace, solidarity with uncompromising fight against the imperialism and its allies.

Central Executive Committee of Students’ Federation of India Strongly criticizes the attempts of saffronization of higher education in Banaras Hindu University. It is a reflection of the agenda of the RSS and BJP when questions like ‘Manu is the first Indian thinker of Globalization. Discuss’ appears in the examination of Masters of Arts in Political Science.

It is important to note that education is being targeted by central government and RSS right from the first day. In the name of Indianisation, they are trying to communalize it and trying to propagate their ideas. Pseudoscience and false history is being taught to students in various BJP ruling states which are polluting the young minds with venom of communalization. There were attacks on the institutions of Higher education. But now they are directly interfering with the content of Higher education also.

In Banaras Hindu University which as recently witnessed determined struggle of girl students against University administration and the chief minister Yogi Aditynath on the question of their security, MA 1st semester students were shocked when they saw question paper for subject social and political thoughts of ancient India. They were asked to write an essay on nature of GST in Kautilya Arthshastra or Manu is the first Indian thinker of Globalization. Discuss’. Nobody from the university administration or department of Political Science is ready to take responsibility.

This is not a simple case of questions from out of syllabus but reflects the kind of conspiracy which is going on to ruin the Higher education of India. In the above example students are forced to think and write in a certain way in they have to lose marks. This is the whole idea to compel students to think is a certain way.

Indian education system doesn’t stand for these values. Universities especially are known to promote rational and logical thinking. Central Executive of India is firmly opposed to these efforts and demands that people who are responsible for framing these questioned should be identified and punished.

Central Executive Committee of Students Federation of India condemns in the strongest possible words the gruesome murder of Afrazul Khan, a labourer hailing from Malda, West Bengal, in Alwar, Rajasthan. Afrazul was the sole bread winner of his family and was working in Rajasthan for the last 12 years.

A spine chilling video of the incident which is being circulated on social media shows the culprit Shambhula Regar justifying the heinous crime in the name of safeguarding the ‘Hindu Women’ against ‘love jihad’. This incident has sent shock waves among the people of minority communities. This is not a case of ‘love jihad’, it has been purposefully orchestrated to instill fear among the minorities which is a character of this government both at the state and centre led by the BJP which is a political arm of the fascist RSS.

This is not an isolated incident, there have more than a dozen cases of lynching and mob violence in the past 3 years since the Modi Government has come to power in the centre. This also shows the deep routed hatred against the minorities in the pernicious ideology of the RSS-BJP. An atmosphere of hatred against the minorities is being created in the entire country which is not only anti thetical to the culture we inherit but also against the social-democratic fabric which the constitution of India guarantees. The nefarious ideology of the RSS-BJP is manufacturing such incidents on a large scale destroying the peace and harmony of the country.

This also exposes the complete lawlessness and state of affairs in Rajasthan which is also led by BJP. There have been several incidents in Rajasthan alone but not even a single perpetrator of these crimes has been brought to book. It seems as if the state government has given a free hand to the hindutva communal forces that are unleashing violence in various forms against the people.

The SFI appeals to all progressive and democratic sections to unite and resist the attacks on the common people and the secular democratic fabric of our nation.

Central Executive Committee of Students’ Federation of India extends it's revolutionary greetings to the farmers’ strike led by the peasantry in Rajasthan under the leadership of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), for their significant victory after their valiant struggle lasting 13 days. The determined and protracted struggle led by the farmers of Rajasthan is an inspiring saga of resistance, leaving a ray of hope in this age of neoliberal onslaught.Since 1st September 2017 thousands of farmers gheraoed the different District Headquarters on the call of Rajasthan Kisan Sabha for a Mahapadav, followed by the Rasta Roko which brought about 20 Districts to a standstill. Only ambulances and essential services functioned. The Corporate National Media, as usual, has ignored the struggle, reiterating their allegiance to the Neoliberal state.

The strength of the farmer's movement has forced the BJP Government led by Vasundhara Raje Scindia to bow down before the demands of agitating farmers. Now the government has accepted Rs 20,000 crore farm-loan waiver after a marathon meeting lasting 11 hours with AIKS leadership. The loan waiver of up to RS.50,000/- is expected to benefit 8 lakh farmers. The State government has also assured they will write to the Centre seeking implementation of Swaminathan Commission Recommendations on MSP in a time-bound manner by working out modalities, purchase of groundnut, green gram (moong) and urad at MSP at all District Headquarters within seven days. State Government of Rajasthan neatly accepted several other demands of agitating farmers including an increase in farmers’ pension from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000, removing the ban on the sale of cattle imposed by the state government, withdrawing the hike in electricity rates for drip irrigation, payment of SC/ST/OBC fellowship with arrears immediately.

SFI welcomes ‘the politics of hope’, rather than ‘the politics of despair’, carried by the Kisan leadership, reflected in the statement of AIKS National President that “We believe committing suicide is cowardice, but we will give our lives to seek our demands’’. People belonging to different sections and areas of work came together recognizing the importance of marching this movement to a logical end. SFI salutes the peasantry in Rajasthan, and All India Kisan Sabha for waging this uncompromised and heroic struggle against the neo liberal policies of BJP government, and for withstanding the brutal state repression over the last 13 days. Let this battle be an inspiration for similar struggles waged by the peasants, working class and the marginalised sections all across the country.
