The Central Executive Committee of SFI condemns in strongest words the heinous act of cowardly attack on SFI 24 South Parganas district conference by the Trinamool Congress goons, yesterday. Many delegates and activists who reached the conference venue to attend the conference were injured with iron rods and other deadly weapons.

SFI CEC member Comrade Pratikur Rahaman and SFI State commitee member Comrade Tanusree Mondal are among those seriously injured in the attack.
This is not the first time an SFI conference is being attacked by TMC goons in Bengal. In a series of incidents many programs organised by SFI has been attacked and disrupted by the same force. A number of SFI activists including All India Jo. Secretary Comrade Mayukh Biswas and State Secretary Comrade Debajyoti Das were injured in such odious acts by them.

Day light robbery of democracy is going on in Bengal. Mamat's police who killed SFI leader Sudipto in the streets of Kolkata is acting as a mute spectators of the criminal acts of TMC gang. SFI demand strict action against the culprits behind the attack on SFI conference. We also request all Democrat and progressive forces to rise up against the murder of democracy in Bengal by the TMC Govt and its notorious group of hooligans.

Central Executive Committee of Students’ Federation of India strongly condemns the comments of Niti Aayog’s CEO Amitabh Kant statement that “government entities should exit from the operation and maintenance of infrastructure projects. They should even look at handing over jails, schools and colleges to the private sector”.
He made this statement when was speaking at PPP Summit organised by industry body FICCI. His whole understanding and vision is very dangerous for public sector. Being the CEO of the Niti Aayog his words speaks about the direction and priority of the government planning for India. Central Government has already launched a project to sell the public sector to the private houses. Citing the government’s inefficiency Kant advocated for handing over schools and colleges to private houses. These comments should be taken very seriously from the head of NITI Aayog.

The replacement of Planning Commission by NITI Aayog which was done by this government is now speaking on behalf of the corporate houses. The atrocious remarks of the NITI Aayog CEO actually points to intentions of this government which is hell bent in destroying not only education but all state run enterprises. The failure lies in the policies and functioning of this government.

With the education sector reeling under huge disinvestments and an overall attack on state run enterprises the constitutional principles are at stake in the current scenario. Although nothing much is expected from the central government working at the behest of the RSS which denounces the Constitution of India but such moves will be met by vehement students’ protests throughout the country and we will work to build people’s resistance against this draconian assault on Public funded education.

The Central Executive Committee of SFI calls upon all its units across the nation to rise up in demand of justice for Gudiya, a school student in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh who was brutally raped and murdered on 4th July. SFI demand CBI enquiry of the entire incident to ensure speedy justice for the victim.

There were different instances in which the authorities acted in suspicious manner to protect the culprits behind this heinous crime. The custodial murder of one of the accused in the case also indicates to such foul plays.

Earlier thousands of students and citizens marched to Raj Bhawan in Shimla demanding justice for Gudiya. There is widespread outrage among the people of Himachal Pradesh against government's attempt to shield the culprits. The Police administration has been acting in a dubious manner which can be ascertained by the statements of the Police officials contradicting themselves. In one incident the official Facebook page of HP CM Virbhadra Singh had posted the photographs of the culprits which had done several rounds in social media but on the other hand some daily wage labourers were arrested. Such incidents raise serious doubts about the entire enquiry. SFI demands that all these developments must be thoroughly investigated.

Central Government is also reluctant to refer the case to CBI. This is also a matter of concern over the safety and security of girl students in schools. It is in this context the CEC of SFI calls upon its units to organize protest programs in demand to ensure justice for Gudiya.

Students Federation Of India demands the immediate withdrawal of the added taxation on sanitary napkins and ensure the maximum reach of the menstrual protection tools in lowest prices. In the recent GST of Modi government, sanitary pads are considered as luxury items and taxed accordingly, when the reality is that these are utter necessity of a woman for healthy life. In a study by AC Nielsen published in the International Research Journal of Social Sciences shows that among woman who does not use sanitary pads Reproductive Tract Infection (RTI) is 70% more common than those who have the access to it. The gynecologists involved in this study also claims use of tampons can reduce the risk of cervical cancer and many more diseases related to the reproductive system. But the ground reality of Indian menstrual health is shocking and disturbing. According to the same study only 12% of total woman in their menstrual age uses sanitary napkins, over 88% depends on the alternative unhygienic ways like unsanitised clothes, ashes and husk sand. This leads to a decline in productivity by 31%, where they miss average 2.2 days in their workplace, in North India over 30% of girls stopped going to school after the start of their menstrual cycle due to the lack of adequate sanitary products. 83% of these girl said that their family cannot afford sanitary pads, added to that there are problems of social taboo where even talking about Periods, free movement during these days are restricted with notion of purity and pollution . Now the further inflation in the prices will push away many more poor women and girls of this country from a healthy reproductive health.

In this context SFI will take up a "Bleed Without Fear, Bleed without Tax" campaign against this insensitive move where from 11th to 14th of July girls across the country will send sanitary pads with a message written against the Taxation and demanding adequate sanitation for woman including sanitary pad vending machines and providing girls in adolescent below poverty line to be provided with 6 packets of sanitary napkins, in rupee 1.
