Com Kailash Sarma was born on 24th July, 1962 and was martyred on 19th April, 1983. His parents were Sri Banamali Sarma and Mrs. Swaraswati Devi of Borbhala (Chuliapara) Goan, Barpeta District, Assam. He was a class XII student and an active worker of the SFI. The blind supporters of the AASU led chauvinist movement brutally killed him on 19 April, 1983. 19 year old Com Kailash was murdered in the broad daylight in front of his school. He was a leading activist of the SFI and was a student of the Bajali HSMP School in which he was studying class 12th. He was to appear in the higher secondary examinations. Apart from being the leaders of SFI, he was also a leader of the democratic movement in his village. His village was predominantly inhabited by the Assamese and was known for its steadfast opposition to the secessionist agitation. Consequently it also became a target for attack by the AASU and AAGSP goondas. Their village was socially boycotted and its residents were subjected to severe humiliation and harassment and was repeatedly attacked by the separatists. Bearing all these the villagers stood united to uphold communal harmony and the integrity of our country. Com Kailesh played a prominent role and led the villagers resistance of the separatists. Thus he became a target for them. The events leading to the murder clearly reveal the cold-blooded and premeditated planning that was the characteristic feature of the AASU and AAGSP. It also revealed the open connivance of the college authorities with the separatists. He was a meritorious student and a recipient of merit scholarship. For months they were unable to collect their scholarships because they could not leave their village and go to the school to collect it because of the threat of the attacks from the separatists. Com Kailash sent his uncle with proper authorization letters to collect the scholarships but the Principal of the institution refused asking for the attendance of Com Kailash in person. This Principal was a known ardent supporter and organiser of the separatist movement. Having no other option he went to the school to collect his check. On his way to the bank from the school he was attacked with lethal weapons by the AASU and AAGSP. Com Kailash succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital on 19th April 1983.
